Tired of Being an Extra? It’s Time to Claim Your Spotlight

Tired of Being an Extra? It’s Time to Claim Your Spotlight

Ever felt like you're just an extra in someone else’s story? You sit in conversations, nodding, offering polite chuckles, and suddenly realize—it’s been twenty minutes, and not once, not even once, has anyone asked about you.

It’s as if life gave you a not-so-perfect script where everyone else gets the big moments—the dramatic entrances, life-changing events, the applause—while you... well you’re stuck behind the stage, admiring the main characters and pitying your mediocre self.

Newsflash: You are not just a side character. You are not just an extra. You are the protagonist in your own incredible story, in your own life. It’s time to take that pen and start writing according to your own will. What do you want to happen in your life? Do you still have dreams, goals, or maybe a simple wish that you have yet to fulfill? Are you afraid? Hesitant to take the first step? Well, I truly hope that after reading this article, you find the courage to make the first move and finally make your dreams come true.

The "Invisible" Feeling: When Your Story Feels Unheard

We’ve all been there. I had this experience, and most likely, you also had, if you're not experiencing it now. That overconfident coworker or officemate who smugly presents your idea in a meeting as if it’s their own. Are they the ones who came up with the idea? Are they the ones who did the research, drafted the presentation, and completed the proposal for days? No! Of course not! It's you, you who had to clap alongside the others after that coworker presented your proposal. Then, there's that family gathering where your opinion is brushed aside with a dismissive, "That’s sweet, dear." They sound polite, but you know they don't really mean it. Then, there's that little voice in your head whispering, "Maybe what I have to say isn't that important."

It’s more than just a fleeting feeling—it’s a slow erosion of self-worth. When we keep shrinking... stepping back, making ourselves smaller, to make space for others. We start believing that our thoughts, feelings, and experiences aren’t as important. And the longer we linger in the shadows, the harder it becomes to step into the light.

Think of Aroa in Blood of Immortals. She knows this struggle all too well. Abandoned into a pack that views her lineage with suspicion, she’s spent years being overlooked, treated as insignificant. Her own people call her "trash, slave, orphan"—someone who is supposed to serve, to submit...

But Aroa’s real curse isn’t her bloodline. It has nothing to do with her origins or her having no parents. No, definitely not! It’s the story she’s been told hundreds of times since she was a child —the one that says she exists to live according to what society dictates, to be obedient and definitely, NOT to lead. She must remain meek and timid so people can lord her around. As if that was the sole purpose of her existence!

Why We Stay in the Shadows (And How to Step Into the Light)

No one chooses to be a background character. No one wants to be a forgettable extra. It happens gradually, through a series of small concessions:

Fear: "What if I say something stupid?" "What if they don’t like me?"

Conditioning: "Good people don’t rock the boat." "Be seen and not heard."

Guilt: "Who am I to want attention?" "Shouldn’t I just be grateful?"

But here’s the truth Aroa learned the hard way—and what we all need to realize: No one is going to give you permission to matter. You have to claim it for yourself. Grab it if necessary!

There’s a pivotal moment in Blood of Immortals when Aroa, to save someone important to her, uses the Blood Goblet, a sacred chalice that would determine the one from the prophecy. Her hand trembled as she sliced her arm and then poured her blood into the goblet. A risky move, painful even, that may cost her life. But so what? Some may call her actions reckless; others brave. Regardless, she still did it. Then, something unexpected happened: the goblet recognized her as the one.

Who would have thought, right? A mere Omega? Impossible! Not her Alpha and Luna. Not her lover whom she trusted, but betrayed her eventually with her best friend. Yes, her best friend whom she saved with her own blood using the goblet. No one!

If the goblet could speak, maybe it would have told Aroa that your pain, efforts, and sacrifices were not in vain. It's your time to play the role you deserve.

That moment doesn’t erase her fear, but it cracks the foundation of the lie she’s been living—that some people are born to shine while others are destined to stand in the background.

Rewriting Your Role: Three Unapologetic Steps

Step 1: Challenge the Narrative

  • Ask yourself: "When did I start believing I was an extra in my own life?"
  • Action: Recall a time when someone diminished your voice or made you feel invisible. Now, mentally rewrite that scene. How would the hero version of you have responded? What would you have said or done to reclaim your space?

Aroa’s first act of rebellion isn’t a grand gesture. It’s simple: She stops bowing to the people who dismiss her. A quiet defiance, a message that says, "I am not beneath you."

Step 2: Take Center Stage

  • Ask yourself: "What would I do today if I were the main character in my own story?"
  • Action: Find one small way to step into your power today. Speak up in that meeting. Say no to something that drains you. Wear the outfit that makes you feel bold and unshakable.

When Aroa realizes her origins, she doesn’t suddenly become invincible. She still struggles. But for the first time, she’s fighting her battles on her terms.

Step 3: Edit Out the Toxic Narrators

  • Ask yourself: "Who benefits from keeping me small?"
  • Action: Identify the people who dismiss your dreams, thrive on your silence, or make you feel less than. Start creating space from these "toxic narrators."

People from her pack constantly tell her, "Stay in the shadows. It is your fate." But Aroa knows that fate isn’t found in hiding. She walks away from them and toward people who see her potential, not just her limitations.

Why Your Spotlight Matters More Than You Think

Reclaiming your life, on how the way you live with the people who actually care for you, then cutting off the people who don't, isn’t selfish—it’s necessary. Because when you stop playing small:

  • You inspire others to do the same. Your courage gives them permission to step into their own power.
  • You attract people who appreciate the real you, not just the version that accommodates everyone else.
  • You prove that stories can change. Narratives can be rewritten or even deleted.

In the series, Aroa isn’t just a princess or a hero—she’s a force for change. She makes everyone acknowledge a truth they’ve long ignored: Fate isn’t something handed to you; it’s something you make through courage, determination, and, most of all, sacrifice.

The same applies to you. Your life shouldn't be about letting others dictate your role and letting you fade in the background. You should be living on your own terms, whether you succeed or fail.

Your Story Awaits

The next time someone tries to hand you a script where you’re just a footnote, remember Aroa’s story. You are not just a subplot. You are the storm."

Your story is waiting to be lived, to be told, to be owned. And if you need a little push to step into the spotlight, let Aroa’s journey in Blood of Immortals remind you: The most epic tales begin when someone decides that the background is no longer enough.

Intrigued by Aroa's story? Discover how she turns her perceived curse into her greatest strength in Blood of Immortals—and find the courage to rewrite your own narrative.

This is your story. Make it an unforgettable one.
